Ghost Hunting and psychic abilities really go hand-in-hand. As a ghost hunter, you try to find the unknown or unseen. Psychics can see the unknown. They complement each other. I know many paranormal groups don’t like to mix science with metaphysics, but you can run into many strange things during an investigation. This is where a psychic can really help.
What do I mean by psychic abilities?
Everyone has some ability. Ever get a hunch or gut feeling? That’s your intuition talking, the foundation of your psychic abilities. In this post, they mean the 4 major abilities:
You may ask why I don’t use sixth sense, or ESP. Well, those terms are just a blanket term for all psychic abilities. I think it’s better to tell you about each ability separately. It’s common to have one strong ability, but not all 4 of them. You can develop them in time. Remember, everyone has some psychic ability. You should also know that some of these abilities work together and it’s hard to pick out each type when you get hit by them. With training, you can tell each apart, but it’s better to relax and let them tell you the story.
Don’t let the big word scare you. ‘Clair’ means clear. ‘Voy’ means sight. ‘Ance’ means someone who can. Altogether, clairvoyance means someone who can see clearly. This is one of the most well-known psychic abilities. It covers seeing the future, retrocognition (seeing the past in detail), remote viewing, aura reading and, seeing the invisible. Sometimes, it includes getting pictures directly into your head. In my experience, men and women have clairvoyance in equal numbers. Jake has this one in spades….but he doesn’t like to talk about it. One day, I’ll get through to him and make him accept it!
It means hearing clearly. Many psychics have this ability. They can hear someone talking to them. I know what it sounds like you’re crazy! It’s different. When you think to yourself, you usually hear your own voice. In this case, it’s like a different person is whispering – or shouting – in your ear. I can tell I’m getting information from a spirit because I hear a ping first or my ears perk up. It’s like a spirit is getting my attention before he says something important to me. Mediums and tarot readers have this ability. In my experience, women are much better at clairaudience. When a male has it – and it’s rare for men to have it – they are really good!
This can mean tasting or smelling something that’s no longer present. It’s a rare ability. If you hunted ghosts or spirits for a long time, you may have thought this was a manifestation of some kind. You may know a female ghost is present because you smell her perfume. Or, you smell a cigar for no reason. Sometimes, you taste chocolate for no good reason. These are both clairgustance at work. Your psychic ability is sending you information about the ghost. Jake and I have had this happen to us during our Congress Hotel investigation. Our EMF sensors were going bonkers and we started to smell cigar smoke in the north tower. If you knew the hotel, then you know smoking has long been banned.
It means sensing or knowing something without a physical reason. This is the hunch I wrote about earlier. Clairsentience can take many different forms and it’s unique to the individual and gender. Men tend to get a hunch. They get a feeling to go into a room to run some reading and their EMF readers surge. Women may get an icy feeling and their hair stands up. For Jake, it feels like someone presses down on his forehead. With me, I get sensations like tingling and the hair on my neck stands up. Your body is the antenna, so listen to it. This one is different for everyone. All genders have it.
In my next post, I’ll tell you how to get in touch with your abilities. In later posts, I’ll tell you how to use each ability on a ghost hunt.
